A great knit for those times when the brain is a little preoccupied with life, The Rough Patch Cowl features a fun and textured knot stitch combined with rows of stockinette. This combination allows for just enough interest to keep the project moving, but not so much that it overwhelms.

Pattern includes both written directions and a video tutorial on the knot stitch. There is also a companion pattern available, The Rough Patch Hat.

Finished (and blocked) cowl dimensions are 22.5 inches in circumference and 10.25 inches tall.

Notes about Yarn and yardage

  • Yardage listed above reflects using DK weight yarn, however, fingering weight yarn held double can also be used to achieve the same gauge. If fingering weight is used, total yardage required would be 450-460 yards.

  • Gauge is important in this pattern because the cowl as written does require nearly the full skein of yarn.
