This shawl is a variation on a crescent-shaped shawl. Worked in three main sections, Rrhiza begins at the top with a garter tab cast-on and garter stitch section, then transitions to a lovely textured stitch section, and culminates in a two-color mosaic pattern (one color is worked at a time, which means no carrying yarns). The picot bind-off creates a delicate finish to this project. This pattern was written in one size for fingering weight yarns, but could be adapted to larger dimensions or heavier yarns.

Pattern includes complete written instructions, schematic, and color chart for mosaic motif.

YARN
The sample pictured was knit using HARBOUR by Murky Depths Dyeworks — a hand-dyed, 100% superwash Merino wool in single-ply fingering weight (approximately 400 yards/100g per skein) in two shades: Blonde on Blonde (2 skeins) and Destroyed (1 skein).

MC requires approximately 750 yards
CC requires approximately 200 yards

NEEDLES & NOTIONS

GAUGE and SIZE
This pattern is written for fingering weight yarn that knits to a gauge of approximately 24 stitches and 48 rows (or 24 garter ridges) to 4 inches after blocking.

Please note that, as with many shawl patterns, meeting exact gauge is not critical. You may wish to swatch in order to achieve a knit fabric that has the right drape and feel.

The width/wingspan of this shawl after blocking measures approximately 70 inches; height is 18 inches.
