A cosy, meditative pattern with basketweave-like texture.

This 3-in-1 set contains instructions for a coaster, potholder and placemat. It uses an easy simplified basketweave stitch to create a sturdy fabric. Pattern includes notes on how to make an optional hanging loop and/or border, and tips for customising your own size.

You can use this versatile pattern for a scrubbie, dish cloth or face towel.

Skill level: Easy - experienced beginner

Techniques:

• Create, block and measure a gauge swatch
• Chain, single crochet, double crochet (US)
• Front post double crochet (US)
• Back post double crochet (US)
• Working into the side of stitches
• Crochet into the back loop

Yarn:

• DK weight (8 ply) / CYC size #3.
• Cotton, linen or other plant-based yarn that is absorbent and heat resistant.
• Sample made using Knit Picks (WeCrochet) CotLin DK.
• Sample colourways: Linen (coaster), Lichen (potholder) and bare (placemat).

Hook size:

• US E / 3.5 mm or size to obtain gauge.

This pattern was written to accommodate some shrinkage after wash. If your yarn does not shrink, you may need to adjust gauge and/or hook size. Gauge is not critical but if you would like to achieve square sizes for the coaster and potholder, please complete a blocked gauge swatch.

Yardage (metreage):
Approximate amount to make all three: 640 yards (585 metres), 275g

Approximate amount per item:

• Coaster: 40 yards (35 metres) each (15g)
• Potholder: 115 yards (105 metres) each (45 g)
• Placemat: 485 yards (445 metres) each (200 g)

Finished sizes:
The border adds approx. 0.75 in (2 cm) width and height to the main body.

Size including border:

• Coaster : 4.75 in x 4.75 in (12 cm x 12 cm)
• Potholder: 7.75 in x 7.75 in (20 cm x 20 cm)
• Placemat: 17.75 in x 13.75 in (45 cm x 35cm)
