Ruutu-socks have a textured stitch pattern with shadow effect. For the shadow effect of the pattern to be clearly visible it is advisable to use colours which have a clear contrast.

The pattern has instructions for both CUFF DOWN and TOE UP socks for fingering and worsted weigh yarn.

The pattern is written for magic loop, but can easily be modified for double pointed needles.

FIINGERING

Sizes

S (56 sts), M (64 sts) and L (72 sts)

Yarn

100 g of fingering weight yarn, app. 420 m/ 459 yds per 100 g in two colours, 35-50 g each. The sample socks were knitted with Schachenmayr Regia 4-ply (75% Wool, 25% Nylon) in colourways 522 Dark Grey 3 (MC) and 1992 Off White.

Needles & notions

2.75 mm/ US 2 circular needle (80 cm/ 32 inches long or longer) or size to meet the gauge markers
tapestry needle for weaving in ends

Yarn

100-120 g of worsted weight yarn, app. 200 m/ 219 yds per 100 g in two colours, 40-50 g of each colour. The sample socks were knitted Novita 7 Veljestä Solids (75% Wool, 25% Nylon) in colourway 44 Graphite (MC) and 11 White (CC).
