Rya is a technique and also a place in Sweden.

Rya is knitted in one piece, back and forth from the bottom up. The shoulders are then seamed (3-needle cast-off) and sleeves worked top down in rounds. The pockets are then sewn on fronts.

There are plenty of variations you can do with these pockets. To make rya loops is just one of them.
If you treat your pockets as an unpainted canvas you can add a lot of different patterns on it, e.g fair isle, stripes, bubbles, intarsia, slip st mosaics, texture, single color or why not rya loops in a different pattern.
Just use the basic pocket pattern and if needed adjust the sts according to your choice.

31⁄2 mm (US 4) circular needle – one at least 80 cm (32”) long and (optionally) one 40 cm (16”) for sleeves or use magic loop.
Stitch holders (e.g. 1-2 extra cables).
Stitch markers.
I recommend interchangeable circular needles and cables.

EXTRAS
6 x 22 mm buttons.
Tapestry needle for sewing loops (preferably one for each colour).
