Saga Night features the Estonian waterlily motif and a knitted-on edging.

The pattern has been test-knitted. It assumes that you can read charts, cast on provisionally, and have some experience knitting lace. A link is provided for 2 techniques to work nupps. A photo tutorial is included with instructions on how to attach the edging.

The shawl can be easily resized. Instructions to do so are given in the pattern.

The sample shawl was knitted in cobweb weight. It can also easily be worked in laceweight, in which case your yardage requirements may differ.

This shawl is part of my series Dreams of Norway, which contains designs inspired by my adopted country. Its name comes from the first stanza of the Norwegian national anthem Ja vi elsker:

Ja, vi elsker dette landet,
som det stiger frem,
furet, værbitt over vannet,
med de tusen hjem, —
elsker, elsker det og tenker
på vår far og mor
og den saganatt som senker
drømmer på vår jord.

Yes, we love this country
as it rises forth,
rugged, weathered, over the water,
with the thousands of homes, —
love, love it and think
of our father and mother
and the saga-night that lays
dreams upon our earth.
