The perfect DK beginner’s sock pattern!

I enjoyed writing my first sock knitting pattern so much, the Sail Away Socks—which were knit with 4 ply sock yarn—that I decided to write up the pattern I make when I knit vanilla DK socks too! They’re perfect when you want some quick-knit socks, or if you’re a total beginner DK socks are a perfect choice as not only are they made quicker but the stitches are easier to see in the DK weight. This pattern is also ideal for adding your own lace or cable pattern as an embellishment.

Size: One size to fit average foot circumference.
Length adjustable by number of chart repeats worked.

You will need:

• 100g of DK sock yarn (approx 225m/246yds)
• 3.25mm short (25cm or 30cm) circular knitting needles - or your preference of double-pointed needles or long circular needle for magic loop
• A set of DPN needles for the heel and toe
• Stitch markers
• Scissors
• Darning needle for ends

Gauge: not critical for this pattern as you can try the sock on for size as you go or use a sock ruler, but please be aware that if you have a very tight or loose tension it will change the amount of yarn you will use and the ‘slouchiness’ of the sock.

The pattern has not been tested by anyone other than myself (for multiple pairs of socks), but if you see any problems just let me know!

Enjoy the pattern!
