One of my favourite places to visit when we go on holiday are the beautiful little fishing villages, where time seems to stand still. They often continue the historic fishing methods that have stood the test of time and that still stock their local village fishmongers. I’ve also always been amazed by the various sailors knots, the skill needed to tie them and the strength of the knots! These socks are inspired by the traditional ropes found on those fishing boats.

The cable pattern is only referenced by a chart and is not written out row by row, but a key is given for the stitches.

Size: One size to fit average foot circumference.
Length adjustable by number of chart repeats worked.

You will need:

• Approx 100g of DK sock yarn (approx 225m/246yds)
• 3.25mm short (25cm or 30cm) circular knitting needles - or your preference of double-pointed needles or long circular needle for magic loop
• Stitch markers
• Scissors
• Darning needle for ends

Gauge: not critical for this pattern as you can try the sock on for size as you go or use a sock ruler, but please be aware that if you have a very tight or loose tension it will change the amount of yarn you will use and the ‘slouchiness’ of the sock.

The pattern has not been tested by anyone other than myself, so if you see any problems just let me know!
