Salix or Willow is a genera of over 400 species ranging from large trees to low, creeping ground covers. Willows are among the earliest woody plants to leaf out in spring and the last to drop their leaves in autumn. The roots are remarkable for their toughness, size, and tenacity to live, and roots readily sprout from aerial parts of the plant. The Salix genera is known for thriving in difficult growing conditions.

The Salix hat is a great introduction to cable stitches. It is worked bottom up from charted or written instructions.
