Greater Boston Yarn Crawl shawl pattern for 2026.

Saltwater is a crescent shawl with a contrasting wave pattern. It begins with a foundation chain and increases two stitches at each edge on every row to form the crescent, with additional increases in the single-crochet sections. You can choose to break the yarn at the end of each section, or carry it up the side of the work – either way, the ends or floats will be worked over in the final edging row.

Materials:
Color A: Approximately 100g (220yds/200m) worsted weight yarn (shown in Manos Alegria Grande)
Color B: Approximately 200g (440yds/400m) worsted weight yarn (shown in Queensland Falkland Worsted)
Size H (5mm) hook
Darning needle

Note: If your chosen yarn has less than 220yds per skein or you’re concerned about running short, you can omit rows 43-54 in section 6.

Exact gauge is not vital for this project, although it will affect the finished size of the shawl and the amount of yarn needed. Choose a hook size that produces a fabric at about 12 single crochet/4 inches (10 cm). The finished wingspan is about 60
inches (150 cm).

Errata The original version of the pattern stated “Note: If your chosen yarn has less than 220yds per skein or you’re concerned about running short, you can omit rows 59-62 in section 6.” This should be rows 43-54, the last repeat of section 6. The pattern has been updated as of 2026-08-06 and is now correct.
