Sand dollar cactus
Sand dollar cacti (Astrophytum asterias) are thornless, so you cannot prick your fingers with them, but they can still die on you, like all the plants I own keep doing. This cute amigurumi is the perfect solution for serial plant killers such as me. Fast and easy to crochet all in one piece, this cactus will bring joy to your home or office, especially if you combine it with my other cacti!
The PDF includes step-by-step written instructions, visual references and photo-tutorials to help you, and it is available in English and Spanish.
Sewing needed: None.
The light-colored dots on the sides are embroidered using French knots, but can be skipped.
Level: beginner-intermediate.
You need to be familiar with the basic stitches used in amigurumi (chains, single crochet (US)/double crochet (UK), slip stitches, increases, invisible decreases), and with back post stitches, working in the back loop only, and joining two pieces together with single crochet/double crochet. There are photo-tutorials to learn how to crochet back post stitches, and how to work in the back loop only, with both right- and left-handed versions, if you need them.
Yarn and hooks: You can use any yarn weight you prefer; you only have to choose a suitable hook so you can crochet tight enough for the stuffing not to show.
