Sandbar
admire a fancy knitting stitch, but to be honest, a knit/purl combination is my favorite! These super easy patterns work up quickly and feature a simple, classic texture that looks good on variegated or solid color yarn. The Sandbar Set features the “sand stitch” and has been named after everyone’s favorite place to swim on the lake: the sandbar!
This pattern includes instructions for the cowl, beanie, and headband.
The cowl is knit with extra large needles (US19/15mm), resulting in a light and fluffy texture. If you can’t find this needle size or prefer to knit with smaller needles, you could try casting on 52 stitches with US15/10mm or US17/12mm needles instead, which will result in a tighter texture. Keep in mind you might need more yarn than what the pattern calls for.
Materials Needed:
- US15/10mm 16” circular needles for hat and headband
- US19/15mm 16” or 24” circular needles for cowl
- Super Bulky (weight 6) yarn: 62 yards for cowl, 63 yards for beanie, 36 yards for headband
- Other: Stitch marker, Scissors, Darning needle, Pom Pom (for hat, optional)
- Pictured yarn: Mammoth by Baah Yarn and Crazy Sexy Wool by Wool and the Gang. 2 skeins/balls will make all 3 patterns with some yarn leftover.
One size fits most adults and kids over 8 (19-23” circumference)
Cast on in multiples of 2 to adjust size
Finished cowl measures 13” w x 7” h
Finished beanie measures 9” w x 9” h
Finished headband measures 9” w x 4.5” h
