Sander Cowl

For the first 3 days, Sander and all my Cowls and Cozies will be 20 percent off! No code necessary! Happy cozy knitting everyone!

In the frosty North, two-color knitting was invented to make a thicker and warmer garment. Beyond the practical side of stranded knitting, colorwork adds contrast and beauty. Besides it’s a blast to knit. The pattern in this cowl is very rewarding because it looks complicated, but it is actually a simple XO pattern repeat. It’s knit in the round with minimal shaping, so you can concentrate on the colorwork without worrying about anything else. In Norwegian, patterns like this one with an XO repeat are called Kors and Kringle, which translates to a Cross and a Cookie (or a pastry). Don’t you love that? But I digress. All you have to do is follow the chart from right to left, working row by row from the bottom row to the top row of the chart. Start with Stitch 1. Put the contrasting color (black) in your left hand and the main color (white) in your right hand, knit the colors you see on the chart in order and the design will magically appear. This pattern is designed with two 7 x 7-stitch patterns. Knit a cross. Knit a cookie. Repeat. You are going to love it! The pattern is in my book The Nordic Knitting Primer and the book includes tutorials that will help you step by step along the way.
