Sandra's Rosemaling Wrap
This cozy crochet wrap design was inspired by the Scandinavian folk art of rosemåling. My grandmother, Sandra, comes from a Swedish background and has always loved the rose-painting folk art. I designed this wrap for her.
This wrap is made using the overlay mosaic technique of crochet. This isn’t meant to be a tutorial on how to do this technique, so if you are unfamiliar with it I suggest to check out the tutorial by Tinna Thorudottir Thorvaldar. If you can do single crochet and double crochet you’re already more than halfway there. It’s super simple to learn and very fun!
The stitch count in this shawl goes down in almost every row. This is achieved by starting some rows on the second stitch of the previous row and ending it before the last stitch. The written instructions will say when to start a row on the second stitch or the first.
Materials:
My Sandra’s Rosemaling Wrap was made with DK weight yarn (11wpi) and a 4.0mm hook.
You will need about 1195 yards (1092.7 meters), 285 grams of color A.
And about 717 yards (655.6 meters), 171 grams of color B.
It’s important to use colors with high contrast so that the pattern stands out.
Pattern uses US terminology.
