‘Sandy Beach’ is a shallow semi-circular garter stitch based shawlette, decorated with 2 panels of print and a scalloped edge in contrast color, created using German short-rows.
You start knitting in the center of the top with a few rapid increases, then increase 2 sts in every row to achieve the shallow shape.

Size can vary significantly depending on your yarn choice (both weight & content), gauge and how hard you block it. The intended size with original gauge is ~ 200x45 cm/ 80x18”

Yarn: fingering to sport-weight yarn in 2 high-contrast colors.
The sample was knit out of Karin Oberg Kalinka - 100% linen. 320m/350 yds per 100g/3.5 oz

  • Main color (orange - Emilia) ~400 m/440 yds
  • Contrast color (dark purple-blue - Kongo) ~250 m/275 yds

Similar yarns (but you can also easily substitute for animal fibers, as many of my testers did!):

  • Quince & Co. Sparrow
  • Shibui Twig
  • Shibui Reed

Needles: 3.25mm/US4 (or size to obtain gauge)

Gauge: 18 sts by 42 rows in 10x10cm/4x4” square in garter stitch
