Sanjuro is a celebration of one of my favorite movies. A lone samurai decides to help a group of young men battle corruption in their village. There are kidnappings, double crosses, and messages sent by camellia petals floating in a stream.

The pattern for Sanjuro reminds me of flowers floating in water. Starting with a Garter Tab cast on, Sanjuro is a traditionally-shaped triangular shawl with a lace border. The two-color mosaic pattern is created by working some stitches and slipping others in a row. Colors change every two rows.

The mosaic patterns are presented as charts and with written line instructions. The lace border instructions are written.

Rosy Green Cheeky Merino Joy creates a soft, fluid drape for the completed shawl. I used two skeins each of Edelweiss and Melange Midnight. When selecting your colors, remember that mosaic patterns show up best with strong value contrast between the Main and Contrast colors.

The finished size is 82 inches (208 cm) side by 31 inches (79 cm) deep, and is easily customizable. The shawl shown used 661 yards (605 m) of the MC and 536 yards (490 m) of the CC.
