The Santa Hats Granny Square is a cute little Christmas square. Perfect for creating purses, bags, pouches, backpacks, pockets, blankets, cardigans… All the things!
Granny Squares are so versatile! What can’t you create with them? If you used heat-resistant yarn and made them double sided (back-to-back), they would make really cute hot-pads for quick Christmas gifts too!
This pattern uses complex stitches to create little hats with a bit of a 3D effect. I am rating it as an intermediate pattern due to the mixing of techniques that are used to create this square. However, there are plenty of pictures, full video links for the entire pattern, recommended video links to learn techniques that may be new to you, and of course the written tutorial.
With Worsted Weight yarn and a 4mm hook, these squares came out to approximately 5 1/2 x 5 1/2 inches, unblocked. One of my testers used a 5.5mm hook with chenille yarn and her squares were 7 1/2 x 7 1/2 inches.
