Sariola is a place name appearing in both the Kalevala and in Finnish and Karelian folk poetry, often referring to the Arctic Ocean in the North or Pohjola. Sometimes the word also appears as a variant of Pohjola. In its original form, sarajas, it appears to be a loanword from the Uralic languages.

Sariola Sweater is worked from the bottom up, and the hem has a colorwork pattern. The sleeves are worked sepa- rately and are joined to the body. The yoke has raglan dec- reases and a turtleneck collar. The sleeves are wide so that there will be room for anot- her sweater worn underneath and you can wear the sweater in place of a coat when out and about.
