Sassafras
Sassafras is a quick and simple knit. The beauty of this beanie lies in its reversibility; wear it reverse stocking stitch side as a slouchy beanie or stocking stitch side with brim folded up as more of a traditional beanie fit.
Sassafras uses the same stitch pattern as the kid’s cardigan Olinda. It can be knit to match Olinda or as a standalone accessory. Both Sassafras and Olinda are places of magic and beauty in the Dandenong Ranges in Victoria, Australia.
Construction:
The brim is worked as a long strip of garter stitch first. Stitches are then picked up along its edge to form the body of the hat. Sassafras uses the same lace pattern as the Olinda cardigan. The pattern works as a eight stitch repeat, which increases to nine stitches over the first three rounds.
