A striking sock made with bold color blocks and worked completely flat on two needles. It’s cuff to toe and back again. The clever construction utilizes a “join as you go” modular technique along with a short-row heel and matching cast-on and bind-off methods.

This sock is knit flat on two needles. The front half is completed in alternating colors from cuff to short-row toe. The sole is worked and joined to the instep each row. A short-row heel is followed by the back of the leg and cuff, also joined to the front. Matching cast-on and bind off methods are used.

Savant-Garde is featured in the eBook collection Stepping Out: Unique Moves. Toe-up and cuff-down in the round aren’t the only way to create a sock! Unique Moves features four sock patterns with unusual constructions from the brilliant mind of designer Holli Yeoh. Featuring socks knit from the centre out, flat, and more, this set of patterns reimagines how socks can be knit, but the clear instructions and helpful diagrams require no stretch of the imagination from the knitter.

This knitting pattern includes detailed written directions, front and back images, assembly diagram, and adjustable foot/leg length.

Substitution Notes
The original yarn is a luxuriously soft sock yarn with cashmere and merino. Choose a fingering weight sock yarn. This can be a fun stash busting project using different colours for each section or keeping the two-tone with strongly contrasting or monochromatic colours. Look for wool blends with some nylon, mohair or silk for strength and a tight twist and multiple plies for a sock that will last.
