Meet Sawyer, your friendly little scarecrow — approximately 40cm tall, with a sweet little bird perched happily on his hat and a tiny mouse peeping playfully out from under his trouser leg.

He’s easy to put together, knitted flat in simple pieces then sewn, with his head and body all in one piece to keep things straightforward — and he’s not as tricky as he looks to sew up! I’ve included illustrated making-up instructions to guide you.

I used strands of chunky yarn knotted on for his straw hair and cuffs, with knitted patches on his trousers and gentle ruffles at his neck, wrists and ankles. He’s worked with just a few simple stitches — knit, purl, Kfb and K2tog — so the illustrated instructions guide you every step of the way.

I’ve designed him in Stylecraft Simply DK and Chunky in these lovely autumnal shades, but of course you can easily substitute whatever similar yarn you have to hand.
