This pattern is an adaptation of the popular Corner to Corner pattern usually worked in double crochet and slip stitches. The basic principles are the same, but I would highly recommend using a hook that is 3-5 sizes larger than your yarn label suggests. Otherwise, it is a very tight pattern, and may be difficult to work into.
