This pattern makes a decorative sleeve with a scalloped bottom edge and contrast border for a small cat or dog collar. The sleeve has loops on the back side which enable it to be worn over an existing collar.

The pattern is designed for a standard cat collar of 1cm width. The height of the loops can be adjusted by adjusting the height of the stitches to accommodate collars up to 2cm in width.

There are many cute crochet cat collars on the internet, but 99% of them use string ties. As my cat likes to play with string, I did not want to risk her pulling on and choking herself with the dangling ties. As I could not find any patterns with safe closures, I decided to write one myself… Now, my cat can be fancy while still using her breakaway collar!

As with all objects made of yarn, it is essential to know your pet’s behaviors well before you let them wear crocheted or knitted clothing. Please supervise them carefully to avoid any risk of the yarn being ingested! My cat only wears the crocheted collar when I am at home with her.
