This is made by knitting two of the exact same scarf, and then they are placed with wrong sides together, and then whip-stitch (or blanket embroider stitch) sewn together at the edges, in order to form a space for a hidden pocket in the side of the scarf. (So the two scarves become one scarf). The basic pattern is for a 4” wide by about 48” long scarf (blocked). But instructions are also included for a 6” wide scarf, but you may need more yarn for that additional width. Also, if you decide to use 3 colors instead of 2, then you only need 1 ball of each, plus the 2 balls of black. Always start and end the beginning/final square with the same color as you use for whip-stitching or blanket embroidery stitch the edges of the two scarves together - this is so you can weave in the tails in the same color. Two new photos were added and the yarn used was 50/50 Tencel and Merino, which is just as soft as 100% Merino, and 3 colors plus black were used.

The scarf feels so soft and squishy, and I am pleased with the hidden pocket in the side to hide my gloves. Even though the pocket does not fasten closed, the gloves can go securely down into the space below (or above) the pocket opening, so it would be hard for them to fall out. Other things you could put in the pocket are: IPOD, cell phone, keys, kleenex, pen, kitchen sink, etc. :)
