Inspired by German twisted stitch patterns, these socks begin with a woven design on the leg that transforms itself as it travels down the foot. Simple ribbing on the back of the leg continues down the heel, and an intricate gusset is incorporated on the top of the foot.

Construction: Top down, short-row heel

Finished Size: 7½ (8¼, 9)“ (19 21, 23 cm) foot circumference and 8½ (9, 9½)” (21.5 23, 24 cm) long from back of heel to tip of toe; foot length is adjustable.

Yarn: Plymouth Yarn Happy Feet (90% superwash Merino wool, 10% nylon; 192 yd 176 m/1¾ oz 50 g): #1249 maroon, 2 (2, 3) skeins.

Needles: U.S. size 1½ (2.5 mm).

Notions: Markers (m); cable needle (cn); tapestry needle.
