One of my least favourite feelings in the Wintertime is a gust of cold air touching the tiny gap created where the base of my cowl meets the zipper of my coat. With cylindrical shaped cowls, I find that either the zipper pushes the cowl up, or the cowl pushes the zipper down. With a simple split between the front and back of the cowl, it drapes over the shoulders holding everything in place.

This cowl was originally released for a few days under the name “Diffindo“, based on a charm from Harry Potter meaning “to cut, slice, or separate”. It was brought to my attention that the association with the franchise was upsetting to some, thus in an effort to not contribute towards feelings of harm to those personally affected, I have opted to change its name to “Scindo“, which ultimately has the same meaning, but in Latin terms.

There is one size included in the pattern, with instructions on how to modify as desired.

Cowl top circumference: 22.5” / 57 cm
Cowl base circumference: 28” / 71 cm

The pattern is knit with a heavy fingering/sport weight yarn held double. The border is knit with a single strand of the yarn, and finished with a crochet hook.

Please be advised that yarn requirements and finished size measurements are approximate. Actual values may vary based on garment size, yarn, needle size, and gauge.

Sample:
Needles: 4.5 mm (US 7.0) and 3.5 mm (US 4.0)
Yarn: Katia Concept - Kashwool, “Smoke (307)“ - 820 m / 896 yds
