This Scottish Thistles Headband is knitted in the round, using either a circular knitting needle or set of double-pointed knitting needles, depending on your preference, so there is no seam and only knit stitches are required for the colour work thistle section. The pattern contains instructions and a chart for the thistle motifs and has full instructions included for the knitted Latvian braid border.

One size fits most, with finished measurement approx. 21ins/54cm circumference, without stretching. Depth of the headband is 5.5ins/14cm)

Amounts of Alafosslopi used are listed, but this pattern will knit to any chunky/bulky wool of your choice. Please use this as a rough guide, given that different brands may differ slightly. The yardage of the wool I used was 100m/109yds per 100g.

Background colour – 30g
Green - 18g
Purple – 15g

One set of 4 double-pointed knitting needles, size 6.5mm (US 10.5) are required. Alternatively, you may use a 40cm or 60cm circular needle in this size, if preferred.
