Scrap Bandana is a relatively quick and easy bandana cowl, with some nice finishing details that should be satisfying for advanced beginners or intermediate knitters. This design works from the same basis as the Provisions Cowl, but it’s lighter, a little friendlier to color experimentation, and features plain, cozy garter stitch—an excellent texture.

Materials:

  • 210-240yds of fingering-weight yarn scraps; sample shown is Malabrigo Yarn Sock, Malabrigo Yarn Mechita,Hedgehog Fibers Oh So Fine Merino, and Cascade Heritage Sock
  • one 16-24” circular needle in US3/3.25mm, or size needed for gauge, used to work flat
  • stitch marker
  • tapestry needle for weaving in ends
  • smooth scrap yarn for provisional crochet cast-on
  • crochet hook, size F/3.75mm or size suited to yarn
  • spare DPN in size needed for gauge, or close

Gauge:
Gauge is 24 sts and 52 rows over 4”/10cm of moderately blocked garter stitch, worked flat. Please be sure to check your gauge.

Measurements:
As shown, this cowl is about 13.5”/34cm deep from top to triangle point, and 10.5”/27cm across the top opening, measured flat. It’s about 21”/53cm circumference, but has
considerable stretch.
