This is a great beginner crochet pattern as it includes details on how to make a granny square and a step by step instructions on how to crochet a single crochet ribbing. After learning how to crochet a single crochet, a double crochet and both slip and chain stitch a crocheter can make this pattern!

Crocheters a bit more experienced can skip through a few of these steps and can customise their mittens by using a different style of granny square (other granny square patterns are not included) and lengthen out the cuffs if desired.

Very easy to size as only one measurement is required, the circumference of the hand around the knuckles. This pattern includes some detail on three featured size examples, small (child or small adult size) medium (made for a woman) and a large (made with a man in mind).

The large pair (blue) are for hands 23cm around the knuckles, the medium (purple) 20cm, and the small (red) 17cm.

A pair of the large mittens weigh approximately 85g with 50g of that allocated for the granny squares for both gloves.

This pattern is intended for use with scrap yarn, however if buying yarn for this project note that each pair will differ due to size and tension and more yarn may be needed than stated in this pattern.

Gauge swatch of 13 stitches and 13 rows in 5cm relevant to the ribbing on a 3.5mm hook only and not the squares.
