Scrappy socks to make with your advent calendar or any fingering weight scraps!

  • Do you have a yarn advent this year but not enough time to make a large project?
  • Do you have a lot of leftovers or scraps of sock yarn?
  • Do you want to do a knitting challenge in December leading up to the holidays?

I’ll be joining in too and challenging myself to knit a mini stripe pair (one stripe every day of December 2024) to match my medium stripe pair :) Follow my progress on my YouTube channel @maanknitwear

Needles
Any fingering sock needle that gives you gauge, I recommend 2 mm (US 0), 2,25 mm (US 1) or 2,5 mm (US 1.5) needles. This pattern is written for magic loop sock knitting, but you can definitely knit it as well using DPNs or small circulars.

Gauge
32 sts x 44 rows = 10 x 10 cm or 4 x 4 inches.

Yarn (there’s a table in the pattern to decide on the amount of stripes for your size)
For the medium stripe version you’ll need:

  • 10-16 different scraps of any fingering weight sock yarn of ~4 g each
  • Yarn for your cuff, heel and toes (20 g maximum, or make these scrappy too, you’ll need a little under 7 g for each of the three)

For the mini stripe version you’ll need:

  • 16-28 different scraps of any fingering weight sock yarn of ~2 g each

  • Yarn for your cuff, heel and toes (20 g maximum, or make these scrappy too, you’ll need a little under 7 g for each of the three)
