Would you like to knit a shawl to fade through five colours of yarn without creating block stripes? Here’s a perfect TV evening project, the repeats are easy to memorise, and as the shawl gets bigger it even keeps you warm while you work on it!

Using 2 strands of sock/4 ply yarn held together, or 1 strand of DK, this shawl is super squishy and cosy! So perfect for keeping out the cold while strolling along a windy beach or during a woodland winter break in a cosy cabin!

The shawl is based on working off-centre decreases - increasing at the edges not only means the shawl is worked in one piece (point to point) but it also creates a neat garter stitch selvedge that lies flat and won’t curl.

Using 5 colours of yarn, when you’ve worked half of the third colour you begin the decreases to bring the shawl back to a point at the other end.
After the main pattern I’ve included a guide on how to blend five colours so they fade through nicely.

Size: approx 186cm wingspan - also adjustable to suit the amount of yarn you have or the size you would prefer (see notes above)

You will need:
• Approx 400g of either sock/4 ply yarn with 2 strands held throughout (approx 1,600m/1750yds) OR DK yarn with 1 strand held throughout (approx 900m/985yds) If you wish to make a faded shawl, you will need 5 colours and follow the fading directions at the bottom of page 3.
• 5mm circular knitting needles to accommodate a large number of stitches (straight needles can be used until there are too many stitches to fit, if preferred)
• Stitch marker

Gauge: not critical for this pattern as you work until the piece is a certain length before moving on to the next , but please be aware that if your gauge is tighter or looser than average, it will affect the size of the shawl and how much yarn you use.
