The current photos are in the process of being updated - I apologize for not having the correct photos posted but the change is simply from one traditional Fair Isle flower to another. I’ll be updating as soon as I can!

Rev 1a includes an updated checkerboard pattern to minimize the white space around the flower and a photo of one repeat of the flower. The final revision will be posted with full photos - thank you!

Sea Pinks Hat is a traditional Fair Isle hat. The colours used reflect the colours of the Sea Pinks found on the coast of Shetland. Sea Pinks are also called Thrift and grow in many places around the world.

The hat includes a traditional Fair Isle pattern and has added ‘Sea Thrifts’ to the top.

Six (6) different colours are used to provide depth of colour and can be substituted if you want a different look. Colours used (Jamieson’s of Shetland Spindrift):

  • Eesit/White #120
  • Wild Violet #153
  • Sorbet #570
  • Rouge #563
  • Purple Heather #239
  • Moorgrass #286

Note: if using a different wool, this is a 2-ply which is equivalent to a 4-ply/fingering weight.

This hat is knit in the round. Please note - if you are using circular needles, you will need a set of 3.25mm DPNs to complete the crown.
