Being from Cornwall I have a natural love of the sea but only recently found out about the Cornish Guernsey jumpers (known as Gansey’s elsewhere in the UK). They are the often dark navy blue hand knitted jumpers and tunics worn by the fishermen, utilising knit and purl stitches with the odd cable. This scarf uses a number of the traditional patterns I discovered and I used wool from Coldharbour Mill, just down the road from me in Uffculme so the name Sea to Mill seemed apt.

Difficulty
The scarf is knitted using knit and purl stitches which are both written and charted. There is an i-cord bind off on both sides with increasing with yarn overs and decreasing by knitting two stitches together.

Yarn and Notions
Double knitting yarn (light worsted / 8 ply) approximately 400 meters / 440 yards.
I have used two skeins of Coldharbour Mill Double Knit in Nettle which is a 100g skein of 250 meters / 273 yards and had approximately 40g of yarn left over (which will be making an appearance in an accessory pattern).
Needle: 4mm (US 6 / UK 8) straight needles
Two moveable stitch markers, tapestry needle

Tension
22 sts and 30 rows over 10 cm / 4 inch square in stocking stitch

Measurements
The finished scarf measures 18 cm / 7 inches wide and 185 cm / 73 inches long.
