A toasty, warm, vintage style hat for your baby. Suitable for either a little boy or girl.

My grandmother made the original hat for my Dad 90 years ago (it’s the blue hat in the picture). I was determined to duplicate it, it’s such a classic vintage style.

The clever construction starts with a circle, the hat is worked across the top, then finished with a circle on the other side, forming the earflaps.

Those circles remind me of the pattern seen on sea urchin shells.

Skills needed:
1 x 1 rib
Garter Stitch (knit every row)
Stockinette (knit RS, purl WS)
Crochet chain stitch (for button “hole”)

That’s it! Easy!
