I hesitated to call this a cardigan. I think of it as more of a top as I envisioned it as buttoning in the back, but it certainly can be worn as a cardigan. The back neck shaping is the same as the fronts so it can be worn either way. I wanted to use an elongated stitch in the border since that is the topic of the Stitch Anatomy article. I decided to add a button band while I was at it since the Special Topics in Finishing article is how to sew on buttons in a knitted garment.

Since seaming elongated stitch patterns can be problematic, the top is worked in one piece to the armholes. I made a small modification to the stitch pattern. Most versions begin with making a double yarn over, but I changed this to a single yarn over as I didn’t want it quite that open.
