With this design, the seagull’s body contains the egg which then ‘hatches’ to reveal the chick inside that!

This pattern is 21 pages long and includes the instructions for the adult seagull, as well as for the chick, its egg and 3 pieces of food. It contains loads of photos to help you every step of the way and it is written in American crochet terms.

You will need:

Yarn of your choice. Yarn weight doesn’t really matter - the size of your project will simply turn out bigger or smaller!

When using Hobbycraft Cotton Blend Plain (this is quite a thick DK yarn so it is equivalent to aran or light worsted weight in other brands) with a 4mm hook, my finished seagull measures 24cm long and 17cm tall (in a seated position).

When using DMC Natura Just cotton (4 ply weight) with a 2.5mm hook, my finished seagull measures 16cm long and 11cm tall (in a seated position).

For the adult seagull you will need the following colours:
White, light grey & beige as well as a small amounts of yellow and dark grey.

For the chick & egg you will need the following colours:
Beige & dark grey for the chick, beige for the egg.

For the items of food you will need the following colours:
Light yellow, light blue, light pink & beige.

A suitable size hook for the yarn you have chosen.

Toy stuffing.

A small amount of black finer yarn or embroidery thread for the facial details.

A pair of 6mm black safety eyes.

A small button for fastening the egg.

If you would like the seagull to be able to hold the food in it’s beak, then you will need 4 small magnets. In the DK weight version of my seagull I used 10mm strong button magnets, but in the 4-ply version I used 4mm magnets. You may wish to miss these out if your seagull is intended for a young child.

Other tools you will need are a tapestry needle, some scissors and a stitch marker.

You are welcome to sell the items that you make using this pattern, but please do not sell / share the pattern itself. Feel free to contact me with any questions as I am more than happy to help. Thank you.
