✦ Yarn, Hook & Size Guide

• Hook size: 2.5 mm (Japanese size 4/0)
• Gauge: 5 sts and 6 rows = 0.8” x 0.8” (2 x 2 cm)
• Yardage: 115 yds (105 m)
• Finished size: 6.9” (17.5 cm) wide x 3.9” (10 cm) tall
✦ Please Note
• The beads on the drawstring ends are an optional decoration and are not covered in this pattern.
• Both yarns used for the samples came from my long-held stash and have since been discontinued. Please choose a yarn of a similar weight.
• For the white sample, I used almost exactly one ball (115 yds / 105 m), with very little yarn left over. I recommend having a little extra yarn on hand.
• The finished size will vary depending on your yarn and hook.
This is a crochet drawstring pouch inspired by seashells.
I’m really happy with how it turned out.
I love looking for shells on the beach. As a child, I admired the beautiful shells that seemed to be found only on beaches in faraway southern countries, so this pouch makes me feel a little nostalgic.
At first, I imagined a zipper pouch with a seashell theme, but when I threaded a drawstring through it, it turned out to be the perfect match. The result is a drawstring pouch that is easy to finish.
The white sample is crocheted in 100% linen yarn, and the blue one in 100% cotton yarn.
The pattern lists Gosyo Sangyo Grace (the white sample) as the yarn used. For the blue sample, I used Daruma Cotton Crochet Large, and one ball was plenty.
The fabric is firm and holds its shape well, so I think a cotton yarn, which is softer than linen, should work well too.
Crochet it in your favorite yarn and tuck it in your bag.
It doesn’t take too long, yet it’s not too simple, and the shape is fun to make, so it might be nice to crochet one as a gift for someone special.
I hope you’ll give it a try!
