I can’t believe it’s been almost 5 years since I cast on the first design in The Sea Collection, and now after all this time, I am so very excited to share the first shawl of the collection, Seashore Hug.

The inspiration for the entire collection has been Gansey stitches of simple knits and purls, and the Seashore stitch patterns have lent themselves to perhaps the cosiest and biggest shawl I have ever made. Its pattern is so addictive that I’ve already made 4 Seashore Hugs! Yup 4!

Seashore Hug is a fully adjustable shallow triangular shaped shawl that allows you to work it to whatever size hug you wish. It is worked top-down commencing with a garter tab. Stitches are increased every right-side row along the edges and central spine.

Seashore Hug, is shown here in 2 sizes, large (grey) and small (pink) using Wooldreamers Manchelopis yarn. The different sizes are achieved by repeating the stitch patterns alternately, as often as you like.
The large grey shawl is HUGE and gives you a massive Hug, whilst the smaller Hug is a perfect sized shawlette/ neck scarf.

You can easily adjust its size and create a larger/smaller shawl, by repeating the sections/ stop earlier, and bind off when you reach your desired shawl size. You can also use alternative yarns and adjust needle size to create different sizes.

You can also use alternative yarns and adjust needle size to create different sizes. Please note that if you do not use appropriate needle size for your yarn, the textured pattern may lose stitch definition, so it is advisable to swatch first.

I made 2 further samples of the large and small shawl sizes (both seen here in blue) using The Fibre Company’s Meadow (held double) resulting in a DK weight, which gives you more modest shawl and shawlette sizes.
(See yarn info and finished measurements below).

The pattern has both full written and charted instructions.

YARN

Wool Dreamers, Manchelopis. 100g per plate (230m/ 252 yds, 100% unspun Wool). DK weight. The shawl is worked with 2 strands of yarn throughout, as provided in a plate of Manchelopis.
Please note that this is an unspun yarn. If making yarn substitutions with a spun or plied yarn, an Aran or heavy worsted weight yarn will most likely achieve pattern gauge, and keep the textured pattern stitch definition strong.

Small sample (pink): 1 plates/ 100g/ 230m/ 252yds.
Sample colour used: Rosa (Pink).
Large sample (grey): 3 plates/ 300g/ 690m/ 756yds.
Sample colour used: Gris Medio (Medium Grey).

Alternative yarn samples:
The Fibre Co., Meadow (held double), 100g
(498m/545yds, 40% wool, 25% llama, 20% Silk, 15% linen).
Both samples knit in colourway Blue Bonnet.

Small sample: 1 skein (100g/ 498m/ 545yds)
