These socks seemed to come out of nowhere and by “nowhere” I mean that curious corner in my brain where a spark of something happens; an image, a thought, a memory perhaps, and it leads me to ask, “I wonder if….”

In this case, I was looking at vintage knitting pattern panels, ideally to be used in traditional Aran sweaters as backing panels to complement the intricate cable designs, or to provide texture.

One minute I’m wondering if the pattern would work when knitted in the round, and the next, I’m 5cm into the leg of a sock and loving
the texture that this pattern creates.
