Seifert surfaces are a construction from Knot Theory -- it can be proved that for every knot, there is an oriented surface of which that knot is the boundary.
This pattern gives detailed instructions for knitting the Seifert Surface of a trefoil knot, and intstructions for knitting a Seifert Surface for a general knot or link.
