This triangular Mosaic shawl features a traditional Japanese design pattern called Seigaiha (青海波 - blue ocean waves).

Typically, a Seigaiha pattern illustrates a series of circular-shaped arches depicting waves. In this shawl design, I chose angular shapes to take advantage of the Mosaic knitting technique. Using a set of gradient mini skeins achieves the subtle movement of tidal ocean waves, which symbolizes the perpetual power of natural forces.

The shawl is worked flat, starting at one end and increasing 1 stitch at the end of every odd (RS) row, creating a triangle. If you have enough yardage left, you may continue working until the desired length is achieved, making a larger shawl.

Borders around the triangle are knit in garter stitch. In the main body section, CC’s (gradients) are knit in garter stitch while the MC is knit in stockinette stitch, creating different textures within Mosaic knitting. Refer to the pattern charts and written instructions on which stitch to use.
