Hello fellow knitter!

I am so pleased to be able to share this pattern with you. The idea behind these socks is applying the look of a classic Selbu mitten into a sock construction. So, the back of the mitten hand goes along the leg and instep of the sock, whereas the palm pattern goes under the foot, the rib for the cuff, and the stripy thumb gusset for the sock gusset. And just like classic Selbu mittens, these socks have columns along each side with a lice pattern spine.

I hope you will enjoy this pattern, and if you need any help or have any suggestions, this topic in my Ravelry group is the best place for support. Happy knitting!

Some practical information

  • Yarn: 2 50g skeins Hohka red, 1 50g skein Humu grey Tukuwool for the 2 large sizes. Or 1 50g skein of each colour of Ovis et cetera yarn for the 2 small sizes.
  • Needles: 1 x DPNs or magic loop circular gauge size needles.

Gauge & sizes

  • Gauge ranges from 35 to 32 sts = 10cm/4”, depending on size.

  • Sizes ranges from UK 4-7 /US 6-9/Euro 36-40, depending on gauge.

  • In other words, gauge is important to achieve the desired size. But I don’t think swatching for socks is worth your time. So, start with the needles you think you’ll need. If choosing between two needle sizes, go with the smaller one. These socks start with the toes, and tight knit toes are sturdy toes! Measure your gauge as you go. If you are on gauge: good, if you are off gauge: either rip out or change needle size as you go.
