You can use any yarn for this design, depending on what kind of blanket you wish to make.The amount of yarn needed depends on type of yarn and size made. The pattern includes instructions for how to adjust the size. I used a worsted weight yarn and the size of my blanket is 1,60 x 1,15 meters
