There is often a shift in the air as fall sneaks into play and the joy that the cooler season brings swells like a sweet melody. I am often reminded of the lyrics by James Taylor and his perfect September Grass song.

“Well, the sun’s not so hot in the sky today and you know I can see summertime slipping on away. A few more geese are gone, a few more leaves turning red, but the grass is as soft as a feather in a featherbed. So I’ll be king and you’ll be queen, our kingdom’s gonna be this little patch of green. Won’t you lie down here right now in this September grass? Oh, September grass is the sweetest kind, it goes down easy like apple wine. Hope you don’t mind if I pour you some, made that much sweeter by the winter to come.”- James Taylor

With that slight chill that comes and goes along with all that September holds I hope this textured kerchief will be a go to during the changing season. May you always find joy in the journey. #septembergrasskerchief

Note:

This pattern is knit on the diagonal until desired length and then seamed together, with multiple sizes to fit from your head to your neck or even for a special pet that might like to lie down in that September grass with you! If you wish to wear this on your head, use a size that is 2-3”/5-8cm smaller than you would use for a hat. If you plan to wear it as a cowl, choose a size that is 2-3”/5-8cm smaller than your desired neck width for your preferred cowl fit. Keep in mind whatever size you prefer to make that you knit in pattern until you are 1”/2.5cm short of the final desired length, then add the 1.5”/3 cm seaming edge & bind off.
The size 20”/51cm is an average adult size cowl, which is also the size that the sample is knit up in.
