September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. This hits home because my beautiful daughter Charlotte died of cancer at 10 months. Ironically, this month is also her birth month.

I could give you so many heartbreaking stats about childhood cancer, but the sad summation is that pediatric cancer is more prevalent than people know, and it’s sadly underfunded and under-researched. In memory of Charlotte, I am designing all of my patterns in September in yellow, the color of childhood cancer. This month, I am also donating the profit from the sale of any Sunshine Charlotte Designs pattern designed in yellow.

Difficulty: Intermediate
Hook: I-9 (5.5 mm)
Yarn: DK (#3)
Size: Beanie (20” x 8”), Slouch (20” x 11”)

Bring awareness to childhood cancer and help support research by purchasing the September Hat pattern. I designed it with twisting cables to remind you of the yellow childhood cancer ribbon.

The beauty of this hat comes from the cables and ribbing, both created using front and back post stitches. I’ve included photo tutorials for both in case you get hung up. Though the cables may look a little intimidating, once you get the hang of it, you’ll work the fptr and fpdc with ease.

This crochet pattern includes instructions for both a beanie and a slouch hat. You’ll work both hats in the round from the top down, and you can choose from two different brim shapes to make this hat more masculine (Brim A) or feminine (Brim B).

Join the fight against childhood cancer and make the September Hat!
