Revised pattern in March 2012 to replace the Ending Stitch Pattern with transitional rounds of stockinette. I think it looks smoother to have a bit of stockinette between the textured stitches and the crown decreases. Added new photo of the hat knit up in Dream in Color Classy. Changed gauge from seed stitch to stockinette.

I wrote this pattern up after I knit the first September Hat from my own hand spun yarn. I’d never written a pattern before and I merely wrote out what I did to get the first hat. After knitting three more with three different commercial yarns I have revised the pattern slightly, but have left in the bit about the fact that it’s your hat and your head, so you may need or want to do more or fewer pattern repeats to get the size you need.
