An easy to knit, lightweight yet tough September Shorty Sock for back to school and work! Use up your stash!

There are two versions of instructions available. The ‘in depth’ instructions hold your hand every step of the way with tutorials and how to sections as you knit, with spaced out easy to read writing, while the intermediate or advanced instructions are more concise. You can however, download the tutorials and help separately. Both come with written instructions and charts for the pattern part of the sock.

There are three sizes, small, medium and large.

Materials needed

4ply or fingering weight yarn in two colours. A variegated sock yarn (75grams) and a solid sock or other (30 grams) are recommended.
2.25-2.50 circular sock needles or DPN’s
Darning needle.
Beads(optional) Beading needle. Thread for beads.

Method

Knitting in the round with circular needles, primarily only on the knit side, apart from at the heel flap where there are some knits and purls on both sides of the work. You are recommended to use two yarns. The first part of the sock from the toe up to the start of the pattern is Yarn A using a sock yarn.

The pattern and some garter areas are knitted using a solid yarn which can be a sock yarn or just a wool or alpaca yarn. I used an alpaca and wool mix here but you can use any as the pattern is not in a hard wearing area hence alternative scraps from your stash can be used. This is Yarn B.

Happy knitting!
