If you are like me, you probably have a sizable variety of yarn odds and ends without a suitable crochet pattern to use them in. That is where I found myself recently, wondering just what to do with all of these beautiful cotton remnants (and a tiny amount of acrylic thrown in there as well) that I had held onto from previous crochet projects.

You will find this pattern most helpful if you take some time beforehand to organize your cotton, linen and small amounts of acrylic remnants into some order that makes sense to you. Here are a few ideas that might help you to get organized:

Separate your yarn by fiber content: mercerized cottons, cotton blends, linen, acrylic
Organize by amounts, least yarn quantity to largest yarn quantity
Arrange by color: darks, lights, variegated

The idea of this design is to use the yarn you have on hand. But, one thing that I feel will truly assist with the beauty and structural integrity of the bag would be to utilize at least one strand of “mercerized” cotton yarn along with a second strand of “remnant” yarn. Mercerized cotton has been enhanced to add luster, strength, better color absorption, reduced shrinkage and reduced lint, making it the perfect partner to add to your cotton remnants for this bag. You may even have some mercerized cotton in your stash that could be used as well.

Due to the nature of this project, exact yarn amounts can vary tremendously. What is most fun is to see how we can construct an extremely usable and beautiful crocheted item simply by using scrap yarn we have on hand. So what’s stopping you? Start organizing your yarn and let’s get going!
