Serenus is the Latin word from which serene is derived, and translates to clear, cloudless or untroubled. This pattern is exactly that: a straightforward pattern designed to be worked up in front of the TV or while chatting with friends at the end of a long day. The simple stepped edges and picot cast off create a point of interest while the garter stitch body gives those fun multi-coloured yarns a chance to really shine.

A note on gauge: gauge is less important for this project, so long as you like the look and feel of the fabric you are creating.

For a larger shawl use a bigger needle, or continue pattern increases and decreases until piece is desired size, though it is important to note that this will affect the amount of yarn you will need. A good rule of thumb is that 100 grams of 4 ply should be enough for a shawlette, 200 grams for a larger shawl.
