The socks are worked in the round from the top down. Instructions are given for working the socks on 4 or 5 double pointed needles. However, the pattern can easily be adapted for knitting on 2 circular needles, or on 1 circular needle, using magic loop.

The inspiration for these socks is a tree in our garden (for over 2 decades) called “Seven Sons”. It is autumn blooming, with tiny white fragrant flowers. But it is the bark that fascinates me. It is papery and peeling and very attractive, even in winter.
